Mondello, Palermitans' beach par excellence

A holiday in Palermo is also synonymous with sea and sun, regardless of the season. Mondello is a seaside resort known to all Sicilians and tourists who every year indulge in a bit of relaxation on the beautiful beaches with their crystal-clear sea and white sand that have nothing to envy from Caribbean beaches. A lunch by the sea, a cocktail on the beach at sunset, all surrounded by a splendid view of the mountains on either side of Mondello.

A beach with clear water and white sand

Mondello is a hamlet and tourist resort of the city of Palermo, from which it is about 12 km away. It is located between two mountains: Monte Gallo and Monte Pellegrino. A seaside resort in a semicircular bay, it is popular not only with Palermo residents but also with many tourists.

The crystal-clear water and fine, white sand make its beaches among the most beautiful in Sicily and very similar to those in the Caribbean. You have the choice between free beaches and private beaches with umbrella and sunbed rental, depending on your needs. In both cases, the beach is particularly crowded in high season and you may risk not finding a place, which is why we recommend you enjoy the beach early in the morning.

A magnificent beach during the day where the scent of salt mingles with that of sun creams, Mondello gives way at night to its movida in the pubs and discos where young people spend the evening among drinks and music.

What to see in Mondello?

Mondello's monuments mingle with the Art Nouveau villas and style of the Antico Stabilimento Balneare (Old Bathing Establishment), the most famous building and one of the most beautiful architectural examples in Europe.

This building, inaugurated in 1915, is known to all as Charleston because it housed the historic restaurant of the same name, now replaced by another restaurant 'Alle Terrazze'.

Mondello is mainly known for its beaches, but it is also worth visiting the historical centre where it is possible to admire the Torre della Tonnara (Tuna Tower), evidence of its past as a seaside village from the 15th to the 18th century. At the time, it was a watchtower and served as a system of defence and protection for the inhabitants of the village from the numerous assaults by Barbary pirates.

Summer in Sicily experiences very high temperatures, so we advise you to bring sun cream and a hat and not to expose yourself to the sun during the hottest hours.

How to get to Mondello?
