The Belgian cliché

As much a source of pride as a cliché, Chips are part of Belgium's heritage. So much so that a museum is dedicated to it in Bruges. The frietmuseum tells the story of the Chip in Belgium, the potato and the various sauces that go with this crispy piece of potato. That's all there is to it. Located in the very heart of the town, in the former Genoese lodge (which dates back to 1399!), the museum is above all designed to be fun and tasty. This museum in honour of a national symbol was founded in 2008 thanks to Belgian photographer Paul Llegems, who was working on the subject of "fritkot" (Chips). So, as you wander around, you'll discover the history of the potato, its arrival in Europe, the advent of the Chips, as well as Belgian culture through the Chips in the arts.

The most unusual

The museum of torture. Yes, you read that right, Bruges is home to the Museum of Torture. Although the theme is rather surprising. You can learn a lot here. But beware, sensitive souls! The building housing the museum is one of the city's oldest stone prisons. The museum itself is a superb piece of architecture in the city, with no windows and over 700 years old. Prisoners have even been tortured here... sensitive souls beware! There are around a hundred instruments of torture on display, all of which are recreated using mannequins. You can also learn about the importance of punishment in Antiquity and the Middle Ages.
