Batur is located in the mountainous region of Kintamani, in the north of the Indonesian island of Bali. It is a stratovolcano consisting of a vast caldera overlooking a lake of the same name.
Bali is not just rice paddies and tropical forests as far as the eye can see .... There are no fewer than 8 volcanoes on the island. If you have to choose one of them, we recommend a visit to Mount Batur, or Gunung Batur in Indonesian, which rises to an altitude of 1,717 metres** (the second highest volcano on the island).
It is particularly famous for its sunrise, which promises visitors a breathtaking spectacle when they take the trouble to reach the summit. Climbing Mount Batur also means enjoying an exceptional hike on a volcano that is still active. So go and perfect your geological knowledge.
