Puerto del Rosario is the capital of Fuerteventura. It's the island's largest city and the one where you'll find just about everything you need: hotels, supermarkets, the tourist office and urban beaches. It's the ideal city for family trips with children, for example, as it offers a range of activities for young and old alike, and all the comforts you need. From Puerto del Rosario, you can hire a chauffeur-driven car for day trips, take a bus with other travellers or hire a car to discover the island as you wish. Culturally, the town, which for many years was home to Fuerteventura's only domesticated goat, is packed with museums, heritage and activities. The ciudad de esculturas welcomes you amidst its magnificent bronze statues for a relaxing and exotic stay, decorated with the sun's reflections on the town's white walls.

A stroll around the port

The capital's large harbour is one of the best on the island. With 60 berths, it can accommodate huge pleasure boats, cruise ships and fishing boats. It's great fun to wander between the fishing nets and watch life go by. Around the port of Puerto del Rosario are numerous hotels, supermarkets, shops and everything else a sailor could need during a stopover on dry land.

The historic church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario

You can visit the little white church that stands proudly in the capital, theNuestra Señora del Rosario church. Completed in 1931, it is part of the Canary Islands diocese. It was the first religious building to be constructed on the island. In fact, it has great symbolic value for the Catholic community of the Canary Islands. As you walk around the church, you'll find explanatory panels telling its story.
