There are several options for getting to Cap-Ferret. By car from Bordeaux, when traffic is good, allow around 1 hour for Lège-Cap-Ferret and 1? hours for Cap-Ferret at the tip of the coastal strip. Another very pleasant way of getting there is to take the UBA shuttle service between Arcachon and Cap-Ferret. During the high season, remember to book your crossing on the Arcachon boatmen's website.
Located in Gironde, 1h30 from Bordeaux, the Cap Ferret peninsula is actually made up of 10 villages, including Lège-Cap Ferret, Claouey, l'Herbe, le Canon and Cap-Ferret. The peninsula stretches for more than 25 km, forming a barrier beach that separates the Arcachon Basin from the Atlantic Ocean. The area's first inhabitants were fishermen who developed oyster farming, a tradition that is still very much alive today. Today, the Cap-Ferret peninsula is a very popular destination, sometimes too much so in summer, but it has managed to preserve its typical wild landscape, which is the key to its charm and success. This little corner of paradise on the Côte d'Argent has everything you could wish for: discover the oyster-farming villages of L'Herbe and Le Canon, where you can sample oysters overlooking the basin; try your hand at surfing on the ocean side; climb to the top of the Cap-Ferret lighthouse for a panoramic view of the basin; enjoy the beaches on the basin or ocean side; go for a bike ride under the pine trees... Take your time, life here goes by slowly!

Situated between the Canon and the Port de la Vigne, the village of L'Herbe is considered by many to be the most beautiful on the peninsula! L'Herbe is a tiny fishing village dotted with colourful little wooden huts. Take your time to wander through the narrow streets of this timeless village, which exudes an incredible charm.
But make no mistake, even if the village of l'Herbe seems frozen in time, some huts are still inhabited by fishermen or oyster farmers. We therefore ask you to show respect for the inhabitants when you visit. Before setting off again, don't hesitate to visit one of the waterside restaurants for delicious oysters, prawns and, of course, a glass of white wine.
Enjoying the beaches
Bathed by the ocean and the basin, the Cap-Ferret peninsula has no shortage of beaches! With 20km of coastline on the Atlantic Ocean, and just as much on the Arcachon Basin, Cap-Ferret is a superb seaside destination with around twenty beaches, each with its own unique charm.
The undeniable advantage of this destination is that you can choose between the ocean beaches and the basin beaches. The former are ideal for lovers of large stretches of sand and waves, and are renowned for board sports. The second, smaller and shadier, are ideal for a quiet swim when the tide is high.
