All the beauty of the Canary Islands, in the Port of Mogán

En route to the southwest of the island of Gran Canaria, we are already heading towards one of the most beautiful harbours of the Canary Islands. Puerto de Mogán, located in the very touristic municipality of the same name, is a marina that welcomes fishing boats as well as yachts and sports boats. Despite its popularity with tourists, Mogán still preserves the seafaring atmosphere of the past, perfect for fishing enthusiasts. Along the coastline you can see old fishing village houses on the cliff slopes, white walls and coloured loopholes that enliven the marina. The architecture of the village is remarkable, its gardens and canals embellishing this corner of the "miniature continent". This idyllic spot on the island is contagiously satisfying, especially when enjoying its small beach, with your feet in the crystal-clear waters, breathing the sea air and sunbathing on the fine white sand.

A stroll through Mogán

Puerto de Mogán is one of the favourite destinations for tourists visiting Gran Canaria, as it has more sunny days than any other municipality, with an average temperature of 24°C. On the way to this village and, above all, to its port, you will be able to see the other tourist spots in the area in the distance, such as Puerto Rico and Amadores. When you get to the seaside district, you will want to spend some time just contemplating how beautiful it is. Mogán is characterised by wide ramps interspersed with deep ravines that run from the interior of the island down to the sea. You can continue on to the old town for a stroll through its streets adorned with colourful flowers that contrast with the white walls of the houses, along with the Italian-inspired canals that run through the town, crossed by equally flowery bridges. It looks like a sort of exotic Venice.

If you like to see the cultural side of a village, you can't miss the gems of this place among which we highlight the Church of San Antonio de Padua, the murals in the Rincón de Mima and the Molino Quemado. The village of Mogán is the perfect place to take a leisurely stroll and sit on a terrace for some refreshments, taking advantage of the weather and the mild climate of the area. After that, continue in the direction of the marina, a meeting point for water sports and water sports enthusiasts. From there boats leave on excursions and the tourist submarine that takes people to visit the seabed in the surrounding area.

Mogán Beach

Next to the harbour stretches the small beach of Mogán. Despite its size, this quiet beach is a perfect place for water sports such as diving, paddle surfing and, of course, fishing. Due to the clarity of its waters, the fineness of its sand and the variety of activities, the beach of Puerto de Mogán is one of the favourite beaches for families with children. Just a few steps from the beach, you'll find a beautiful promenade lined with bars, restaurants, cafes and more, where you can have lunch or dinner, or simply enjoy a drink while taking in your surroundings. Among the restaurants, although all of them have a varied menu and dishes made with quality, local and fresh produce, we recommend you to go to I love Mogan, a seafood and Spanish cuisine restaurant that offers fresh fish of the day, pasta, and other delicious dishes.

If you are in the beach area of Mogán on a Friday, you will have the opportunity to go to one of the most popular and biggest markets in Gran Canaria, the Mercadillo de Playa de Mogán. This takes place every Friday from 09:00 to 14:00, and is spread over almost all the streets of Puerto de Mogán. Among the 500 stalls you will find everything from Canarian food and handicrafts to souvenirs and clothes. This picturesque flea market is a must-visit when visiting Gran Canaria for a day of shopping in one of the most touristy areas of the island. With a rich gastronomic offer, a relaxing seaside feel, cheerful people and a charming atmosphere, you have everything you need to have a good time here.

What do you need to know for your visit?

  • To get to Puerto de Mogán, there are several transport options. If you have a car, you can take the GC-1 motorway or the C-500 and C-812 roads. If you prefer to go by public transport in Gran Canaria, there are several lines that cover Mogán, but the closest to Puerto de Mogán are lines 1, 32 and 70.
  • Amadores beach is another beach in Mogán that is well worth a visit. It is a nudist beach, very popular during the season as it has the blue flag certificate. There you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas, park for free, and even eat at one of the restaurants in the nearby shopping centre.
  • Another popular beach is Anfi del Mar. Located in the middle of the La Verga ravine, it is also known as La Verga beach. This artificial beach, built in the 90s, has several services (toilets, showers, bars). Nestled between two small dykes, it forms a small crescent of turquoise waters, very calm, which is why this beach is very popular with families with children.
