The bobsleigh and skeleton run at La Plagne, the only one of its kind in France!

La Plagne's bobsleigh and skeleton run is the only one of its kind in France. Built for the Albertville Olympic Games in 1992, it is now possible for thrill-seekers to take to the slopes for a downhill run. Solo with the Speed Luge or in a team with the Bob Raft and Bob Racing, there's one thing in common: you're guaranteed to have an unforgettable (and hair-raising) time!

Located in Plagne 1800, a charming, friendly and relaxing resort, the run stretches over no less than 1.5 kilometres of ice. At the end of the day, the professionals leave the Olympic site in the hands of holidaymakers, so they can play at being Rasta Rockett's apprentice!

A major construction

From 8 to 23 February 1992, Albertville hosted the Winter Olympics, an event that mobilised the surrounding resorts. La Plagne was one of them; at the time renowned for road bobsleigh, construction began on a real bobsleigh track... on ice. It took three years to complete this spectacular site. In a few figures, 1,507 metres of track, 19 bends and 124 metres of vertical drop were used by the greatest professional bobsleigh riders of the time.

Now maintained by more than twenty glaciers, who must maintain perfect regularity throughout the track, it is a work of goldsmith that awaits them each season. World competitions are always held in the structure, which is particularly renowned for its technical nature. Several of the seasoned bobsledders who train on the track have taken part in the Winter Olympics in this discipline.

In the shoes of Rasta Rockett

Every year, thousands of holidaymakers take to the gears at La Plagne to hurtle down the piste. Wearing warm clothing and helmets, solo or in groups of up to four, the adventurers who embark on this descent are sure to impress the Rasta Rockett team. Three machines have been designed, built and are now in use by the La Plagne teams to give holidaymakers a memorable experience.

For a gentle start, the Bob Raft, with its top speed of 80 km/h, is ideal for families. The Speed Luge will suit the more solitary skiers, who will be propelled at 90 km/h in certain sections. Adrenalin junkies will opt for the Bob Racing and its 120 km/h top speed, which requires a strong heart!

Downhill skiing does come at a cost, which can easily be explained by the number of employees and the maintenance required. There are less than twenty runs in the whole world, so to be able to slide in the footsteps of champions is an opportunity that comes at a price! At the end of the afternoon, the professionals give way to amateur holidaymakers.

There are plenty of bars where skiers and those who prefer snowshoeing or tobogganing can get together for a drink. Savoyard restaurants offer raclette, fondue or tartiflette to warm up beginner bobsleighers in a cosy woodland atmosphere.
