Tobogganing down the slopes at Les Arcs

If there's one activity that brings the whole family together, it's tobogganing. And don't forget that sledging isn't just for kids - it can even be as adrenalin-pumping as snake gliss.

You can go tobogganing in any ski resort; all you have to do is go a little further up the slopes at the bottom of the resorts, where permitted of course. But in Les Arcs, the toboggan runs can be up to 3 km long, offering you long minutes of descents, falls and, above all, fun. On the official slopes, sledges are included in the rental price, but you can also buy or hire one in the many winter sports equipment shops, so you can go sledding whenever you want and almost wherever you want.

Tobogganing is a winter-only activity, as there are no summer toboggan runs in Les Arcs.

What are the essentials for sledging?

Whether you're a skier or not, this afternoon you've decided to hit the slopes... with a toboggan. Even if you're a little closer to the ground, that doesn't mean you're not going to get a thrill.

To be ready for your toboggan outing, you'll need snow on the slopes, of course, but at Arc 1800 and Arc 2000 this shouldn't be a problem.

You'll also need a ski suit, which is a good idea as it's usually the essential thing to bring on a skiing holiday.

You'll also need a slope with a good gradient, as you'd be forgiven for thinking that we don't really glide on the flat (except on ice skates, but that's a different activity).

As with skiing, you need a helmet. Combine it with sunglasses or a ski mask (to protect your eyes).

And of course a sledge. The choice is yours! The shovel sledge is still a classic for having fun with the little ones, but there are much sportier sledges like the snake glide or the uniski Yooner sled.

Where can you go tobogganing in Les Arcs?

In Arc 1800

Fun for children aged 3 and over.

Put on your helmet and choose your sled from the Speedy models (which go faster) or the sleds that can accommodate one adult and one child.

Head to the Villards gondola for the start of the run.

Off you go for a 900-metre descent with bends, immersion in the forest and a tunnel with video projection for a spectacular and above all memorable finish.

Children aged 3 to 7 must be on a toboggan with an adult.

From the age of 8 they can be on their own but under adult supervision.

Opening times :

The sledge run at Arc 1800 is open every day from mid-December to the end of April from 2pm to 7.15pm and on Thursdays at night until 8.15pm.

Prices :

8€ with the Classique pass.

4 with the Essential Pass and the Pedestrian+ Pass.

Free and unlimited with the Premium pass.

At Arc 2000

Maximum thrills for those aged 10 and over and at least 1m25 tall.

Over a length of 3km, you'll be able to take many bends, jump over bumps and above all enjoy a long moment of sliding.

To get there, take the Arcabulle chairlift or the Transarc gondola.

Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

Be sure to fasten your helmet, as falls are part of the game when sliding down the Arc 2000 toboggan run.

A little extra: Before you hit the slopes with your sledge and helmet, don't forget to take a few minutes to admire the beautiful view from the Col de la Chal. You can admire the Arc valley, the Aiguille Rouge and Mont Blanc.

At Arc 1600

A different kind of toboggan, and above all one that takes off with the Toboggan. This is an inflatable sledge in the shape of a buoy that lands you on a huge inflatable mattress called an Airbag. It's great fun, but you've got to have a good heart.

Accessible from age 8 and helmets are recommended.

Opening times:

Every day from 1pm until the slopes close.

Prices :

Free with PASS Essentiel, Classique, Premium.

At ESF Arc 1600

A Yooner descent:

The Yooner is a uniski toboggan that's a must if you're keen to try something new. This activity is supervised by the ESF and lasts 1h30 at the end of the day, as you will be leaving on the last lift.

You'll take the Mont Blanc chairlift to Arc 1600.

Depending on the weather and snow conditions, the descent continues as far as Les Granges with a funicular back up to Arc 1600.
