Hiking has many benefits for the body and mind. It prevents obesity and the risk of diabetes, maintains the muscles and gives your child a little more freedom than walking in the city, which encourages independence. Walking also reduces stress and increases serotonin, which is responsible for pleasure and well-being. Everyone will feel great after a family hike.
Hiking isn't always children's favourite activity, but by making it fun, they'll be able to play little explorers and walk a few kilometres without realising it. In the resort of Les 2 Alpes and the surrounding villages, there are a number of hikes that are very accessible to children, offering treasure hunts, treasure hunts, geocaching, orienteering and torch-lit walks. It's a great way to spend a family holiday in the mountains, whether in summer or winter. Although the tourist offices in Les 2 Alpes, Venosc, Auris-en-Oisans and Oz-en-Oisans will no doubt be the best people to advise you, here are a few ideas for a fun family outing.
Why go hiking with your children?
How do you walk with your children?
There are a few points to bear in mind before going hiking with children:
- All members of the family must have good footwear. If one of your children has sore feet or blisters, it will be almost impossible to get them to walk. There are dedicated children's walking sections in sports shops. They'll be able to give you the best advice on equipment.
- Pack a water bottle in a small rucksack so that your children can drink when they need to. You can also pack a small snack with a cereal bar and/or fruit.
- It's essential to wear a cap or bobsleigh, sunglasses and sun cream on your face and body, which you should reapply every hour. This is even more important in the mountains.
Walking with children also means taking your time, making the most of nature and its flora and fauna, and discovering animals, insects and plants that they are not used to seeing on a daily basis.
