In addition to the indoor scenes shot at Titanic Studios in Belfast, most of the location shooting took place in the wild landscapes of Northern Ireland, a somewhat forgotten tourist destination in the UK...

As the story unfolds, we see the Giant's Causeway, the port of Ballintoy, Tollymore Forest Park at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, and Castle Ward on the shores of Loch Strangford. **Places steeped in local legend, perfect for illustrating the mythical lands of the famous series.

Northern Ireland, the setting for a fantasy series!

A wild land full of medieval ruins, Northern Ireland is home to some of the most beautiful settings in the world-famous series Game of Thrones. It's not for nothing that the HBO series has set up shop in this country. Many of the sites are magical and steeped in history. As well as splendid landscapes, Northern Ireland is home to superb medieval castles such as Dunluce, Ward and Carncastle. The strange alley of Dark Hedges

🚌 How to get there By car, the site is a 1 hour 15 minute drive from Belfast. Alternatively, allow 2 hours by train for a Belfast-Castlerock journey, on the Londonderry line. Free on-site parking.

The coastal heights of Binevenagh Mountain

Just a stone's throw from the Temple of Mussenden, Game of Thrones fans will surely remember the scenes from season 6 that were filmed in Magilligan, near Binevenagh Mountain. All the more so as this setting had already been used in season 5 to bring the imaginary landscapes of the Vale of Arryn to the screen.

🚌 How to get there From Mussenden Temple, walk along Leighry Road and then follow a path on the left through the forest towards the summit of Binevenagh.

Ballintoy Harbour coastal walk

It is from this picturesque port at the end of its rocky bay that Theon Greyjoy disembarks before being escorted by his sister Yara to the castle, home of the famous Ironborn. Ballintoy beach was also used to film the scene where Euron Greyjoy is drowned to become King of the Iron Islands.

"Ballintoy Harbour and its beach are a perfect stopover right next to the Giant's Causeway."

🚌 How to get there: right in the north of the country and 1 hour 20 minutes from Belfast, the harbour is very easy to find. Just head to Ballintoy and follow a small road straight down to the harbour.

The wild scenery of Murlough Bay

Not far from Ballintoy, the landscapes of Murlough Bay are even wilder, even more striking. This rocky and difficult bay is where Jorah Mormont and Tyrion Lannister had a run-in with the slavers on their way to Meereen.

🚌 Getting there: a 30-minute drive from Ballintoy Harbour, further east. Located between Fair Head and Torr Head, follow the road down towards Murlough Road.

The Gothic ruins of Inch Abbey

In Downpatrick, the magnificent Cistercian abbey of Inch Abbey, founded in 1180, was the setting for one of the most important scenes in the series. It is here that Rob Stark is proclaimed 'King in The North'! Admission to Inch Abbey is free.
