Visiting Lagos and the surrounding area

Lagos is the second largest town in the Algarve. Situated on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, it enjoys a high level of tourist activity, yet has managed to retain its authenticity. Its historic centre boasts typical Portuguese architecture, with colourful houses covered in azulejos and alleyways paved with the famous little black and white tiles. You'll love wandering around this charming old town. Lagos is also the perfect place to buy a few souvenirs and sample some delicious Portuguese specialities.

There are plenty of places to explore in the surrounding area. Along the marina, you can go on all sorts of excursions: a day on a catamaran, a meeting with dolphins, a kayak trip, discovering caves and secret beaches by boat... Lagos is also known for the superb cliffs that carve out its coastline. The most emblematic site, Ponta da Piedade, can be discovered both on foot and by sea. Around the fortifications, it's great to stroll along the marina and fishing port. The quays are very well laid out and will allow you to walk quietly up to the Fort da Ponta da Bandeira, then to the first white sandy beaches on the outskirts of the town.
