Le Touquet-Paris-Plage, the elegant and sporty seaside resort

Le Touquet-Paris-Plage, known to many simply as "Le Touquet", has become increasingly popular in recent years. Already a popular tourist destination, visitors are now flocking even more to admire the town. In the 1930s, the seaside resort began its transition into a little Paris, not least because of the elegance and style of its regulars. Thanks to the expertise of John Whitley, who developed this sports paradise, Le Touquet-Paris-Plage remains a pleasant holiday destination today. Proud of a name that has always earned it prestige in France and England, it is now trying to reclaim its role as a destination of elegance, thanks to its luxury hotels and thalassotherapy centres that attract a select clientele. Well connected to the capital by the TGV, Le Touquet offers a golf course and various sports centres that strive to preserve the sporting spirit intended by Whitley.

What to do in Le Touquet

A temple of well-being and sport

Le Touquet-Paris-Plage has long been a destination for health and well-being. Many hotels have equipped themselves with a wellness and treatment centre. In 2012, the centenary of the foundation of Le Touquet was celebrated, and the resort has for many years presented itself as a destination of elegance, offering a wide range of wellness services.

The number of cycle paths has also increased and sports centres offer a wide range of activities. The town also boasts a 9-hole golf course. And of course, when you think of the beach, you think of water sports: you'll be spoilt for choice, but we recommend you try sand yachting for a thrill of speed, curves and sea air.

A breath of fresh air by the sea

If you're not the most athletic, you can always take a walk on the beach. Faced with this 12-kilometre stretch of sand, you can calmly lose yourself in your thoughts. It's true that the colourful houses scattered here and there on the beach give this peaceful seaside resort a real charm. The real attraction, however, is the 'Pointe du Touquet', a protected natural site that can be visited on foot or on horseback and is home to a wide variety of natural species.

Thirty kilometres to the south lies the Baie de la Somme nature reserve, characterised by extensive, relaxing dunes: this phenomenon is particularly visible in the Canche estuary. Last but not least, Le Touquet-Paris-Plage is a great place to relax. As it doesn't require a particularly structured visit, you can spontaneously go there to enjoy the beach, the natural landscapes or the leisure facilities.

A town full of history

The architecture of a number of buildings, especially hotels such as the Atlantic, Hôtel des Anglais and L'Hermitage, bears witness to the strong British influence on the town's development. The Hôtel des Postes, dating from 1927, is also a historic monument.

And don't miss the Town Hall, the lighthouse and the covered market. Built in 1927 in the shape of a half-moon, the latter is a listed historic monument. You'll find plenty of local produce, especially seafood, under this huge arcade.

The small town (which currently has a year-round population of less than 5,000) also boasts a church dedicated to Joan of Arc, probably the first church in France dedicated to the saint. The town's main thoroughfare also offers a large number of more or less luxurious window-shopping opportunities.
