The power of nature in action

Nicknamed the Fairy Chimneys, these were originally simple sand and clay formations. Over the years, the magic of erosion caused by La Têt (the river that flows through the Pyrénées-Orientales) has worked its magic, giving rise to this spectacular amphitheatre of rock columns. Varying in size, the chimneys can reach up to 10 metres in height.

Why visit the Orgues d'Ille-sur-Têt?

Firstly, for their appearance, because these shapes are more than surprising. Visiting the "Cheminées des Fées" (Fairy Chimneys), as they are nicknamed, is also like travelling a few thousand kilometres while remaining in France. Indeed, amidst these ochre, red and orange rock formations, you can't help imagining yourself in the American West, in a sumptuous natural park. Only the panorama of the Canigou in the background reminds us that we're in the Pyrénées-Orientales.

When light shapes the landscape

Depending on the sun and the time of day, the organs change their appearance. Mysterious and secretive when lurking in the shadows, they become radiant and warm when the sun is at its zenith. Often, all it takes is a step or two in another direction to discover a new formation or a new hidden face of the organs.
