Spas unique in the world, on stilts or underwater

In the Maldives, it's hard to find a hotel without a spa. It's all part of the experience! It has to be said that the setting lends itself perfectly... Whether underwater or on the waves, these veritable temples to massage offer a breathtaking view of the underwater fauna. The highlight is the Huvafen Fushi Maldives, a state-of-the-art resort designed by Philippe Starck and boasting the only underwater spa on the planet!

The Huvafen Fushi underwater spa

It's no coincidence that the Huvafen Fushi, inspired by Philippe Starck in 2004, attracts many Japanese. At the cutting edge of technology, with a refined contemporary décor designed by Dedon, the resort adds its own unique touch with little extras, such as a massage room plunged into the heart of the Indian Ocean. It's not complicated, there are no other spas like this on the planet. A resort love accessible to a privileged few, the host, labelled The Small Luxury Hotels of The World, offers just 44 accommodations.

Located in the North Malé atoll, Huvafen Fushi Maldives is 30 minutes from Malé international airport by luxury yacht or 15 minutes by seaplane. Its spa is unique in the world! It lies eight metres beneath the waves... Access is via a staircase, then you find yourself in a giant natural aquarium, a unique sensation, in short, the experience of a lifetime!

Practical information

Many spas on stilts have massage tables overlooking a bay window. It would be a shame to close your eyes and fall asleep, as we sometimes like to do during a traditional massage. It's not everywhere that you can be pampered while spotting a sea turtle, a ray or a shark: be on the lookout! Failing that, you're bound to see some colourful fish.

The underwater spa experience is certainly magical, but it can be unsettling if you're claustrophobic. Think about it before you book.
