Itinerary: The Côte Fleurie from Deauville to Cabourg

The Côte Fleurie is a stretch of coastline in Normandy. It stretches for around fifteen kilometres between Deauville to the east and Cabourg to the west. It lies to the east of the Calvados département, at the gateway to the Pays d'Auge countryside. This tourist coast offers visitors a string of seaside resorts and green countryside. The many seaside resorts are a reminder of just how much the area depends on tourism. So you'll have plenty of choice for dining, entertainment and a good night's sleep! In fact, we have two places to stay. One is in the beautiful town of Villers-sur-Mer, the other in the famous resort of Cabourg. Deauville remains the leading destination in the area, which is why we're starting our itinerary here.

Day 1: Deauville to Villers-sur-Mer

Today we're following the D513 between Deauville and Villers-sur-Mer. This 10-kilometre route offers many points of interest and runs alongside the English Channel and the beautiful Normandy countryside. As soon as you leave the outskirts of Deauville, you come to Mont Choisy. From the top of this hill, you have a wide view stretching from the Orne estuary to Cap de la Hève. Back on the D513, you pass through the seaside resort of Bénerville-sur-Mer. Next to Bénerville-sur-Mer is Blonville-sur-Mer. Once again, the fine sandy beach is the backdrop for villas and an interesting religious building, the chapel of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption. You can do some shopping in a local grocery shop for a picnic by the beach. La Fine Bouche, a delicatessen, offers fruit and vegetables, cheeses, wines and spirits.

The road then takes you to Villers-sur-Mer. This elegant seaside resort has suffered less from concrete development than the rest of the coast. Here, opulent villas blossom in front of a 5-kilometre-long beach. The beach at Villers-sur-Mer ends where the Vaches Noires cliff begins . This cliff lies between Villers-sur-Mer and Houlgate, offering walkers a beautiful panorama. It stretches from Trouville to the seaside resort of Luc-sur-Mer. And don't miss the countryside inland from Villers-sur-Mer. Here you'll find an exuberant natural environment that blends perfectly with the rugged terrain.
