The Kurhaus and its casino

The town of Baden-Baden, in south-west Germany, has long been a popular destination for its thermal springs and luxurious spas. Among its many points of interest, the town is home to one of the most emblematic buildings in German architecture: the Kurhaus.

Built in the mid-19th century, the Kurhaus is a historic building that once served as a meeting place for the rich and powerful of the day. Today, it houses a concert hall, a casino, restaurants and other facilities that are much appreciated by visitors.

Since its construction in the mid-19th century, Baden-Baden's Kurhaus has established itself as one of the city's most emblematic and most visited buildings. Over the years, the Kurhaus was extended and modernised to meet the municipality's entertainment and leisure needs. In 1901, a theatre was added to the building, followed by a concert hall in 1924. Both of these facilities are still in use today, as is a casino renowned throughout Europe.

The cultural importance of the Kurhaus

As well as being a tourist attraction, the Kurhaus is an important venue for German culture. Since its creation, it has been a meeting place for many of the country's most important historical figures, including writers, musicians and artists.

The building itself is also a magnificent example of nineteenth-century German architecture. With its neoclassical and Art Nouveau elements, the Kurhaus is a remarkable testimony to Germany's architectural heritage, attracting many enthusiasts every day.

Finally, the Kurhaus is also a symbol of Germany's political and cultural history. During the Second World War, it was used as a reception centre for refugees and wounded soldiers. After the war, it was rebuilt and has continued to serve as a gathering place for visitors from all over the world.

In summer, the Kurhaus is the venue for numerous open-air events, including free concerts, dance performances and wine-tasting evenings. In winter, the inner courtyard is transformed into an ice rink for the enjoyment of children and adults alike.

The Kurhaus casino also organises special evenings with entertainment and shows to keep visitors entertained. Poker and roulette tournaments are also held regularly.
