7 memorable activities you can only do in Las Vegas

It's not for nothing that Americans call it "Sin City". Because Las Vegas is all about getting the most out of life. It's in its DNA. Its history explains this characteristic, since the underworld that created it in the 20s wanted to turn it into a gambling paradise, where money and champagne would flow freely. And so it was. Since then, the whole of the West Coast has converged on this effervescent maelstrom when it comes to partying and indulging in the pleasures of the casinos. Not to mention the foreign tourists.

At the same time, Las Vegas is often described as a crazy city where anything goes. It's true that there's nothing you can't do here. The "city without a clock", as it's also known, offers totally crazy activities that can only be done here: express weddings, hotels and casinos that are each crazier than the last, indoor rollercoaster rides, diving into the world of CSI Las Vegas, soaring through the air above the buildings or being thrown into the void from the top of the tallest towers.... These are just some of the activities that will take your breath away.

The thousand and one lights of the Strip are dazzling. The city's main thoroughfare, Las Vegas Boulevard (more commonly known as the Strip) has become the symbol of excess. On either side of this avenue are casinos, restaurants, boutiques, nightclubs and endless hotels. No surprise here: there's nothing classic about these hotels. With their own distinct visual identity, they all showcase their own particular tourist destination.

The Excalibur is shaped like a castle, and the Luxor takes us back to Egypt with its pyramid and majestic sphinx. If the Eiffel Tower had been taller, the Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino would almost be our capital. For the more romantic, head for Italy with the Bellagio, which pays homage to the Italian Renaissance, and finally, the Venetian, with its canals straight from Venice, on which you can ride a gondola. Las Vegas offers a real world tour, with a touch of excess.

Getting married in front of Elvis Presley or Marylin Monroe

If there's one folly that the whole world associates with Las Vegas, it's the express wedding. Many chapels have been built in Old Vegas. Each one more kitsch than the last, they offer up weddings by the minute, with Elvis Presley or Marilyn Monroe as masters of ceremony.

Once the union has been sealed in front of the icons of America, anything is possible. Wedding photos at the Grand Canyon or in front of the legendary "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign, an exceptional dinner at Caesars Palace or an evening of debauchery in one of the world's biggest nightclubs - nothing is impossible.

Las Vegas is one of those destinations that tourists first discovered on television, in series (which were often approved or co-produced by the towns themselves). These include the series "Vegas", created by Michael Mann, and "Las Vegas", starring James Caan and Tom Selleck, as well as the worldwide hit series CSI Las Vegas! Who hasn't seen one of these episodes?

© Destinacigdem / 123RF

There are no iconic locations in this series(CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in the USA), apart from the famous laboratory that reveals all the scientific secrets of the investigations. We also spend a lot of time in Vegas hotels (without naming them). So, as far as we know, there is no tour operating around this series in the city itself. That said, to build on the hype generated by the series over more than 20 years, MGM Grand Hotel and Casino is offering an interactive immersion into the world of the series: CSI: The Experience.

This role-playing game will take you into the world of the series, first at a crime scene, then at the Las Vegas police station, in the autopsy room and in the laboratory. As a budding detective scientist, be a little clever and you're bound to discover the culprit!
