Marvel at the WOW museum

The WOW Museum is a must-see in Zurich for anyone looking for a change from the ordinary. Located just a stone's throw from Zurich's main railway station, this museum offers you the chance to discover optical illusions in all their forms. Over three floors and more than 400 square metres, you'll confuse up and down, reality and illusion... so much so that you won't be able to trust your perception! Dive into 12 different immersive experience rooms, immerse yourself in the lights and get lost in the patterns. WOW combines fun and learning, culture and virtuality, for fun sharing with friends, couples or families. The complete visit lasts from 1 to 1h30.

The original founders of the museum, Matthias and Vanessa Kammermann, are two illusionists who wanted to share their passion in a vast space that combines education and fun. On three floors spread over 400 square metres, you'll find 12 different adventure rooms to explore.

The programme includes walking through inverted rooms that give the impression of having your head turned upside down, getting lost in the hall of mirrors whose infinite reflections are reminiscent of funfair attractions, and much more! One room often makes a big impression on visitors. Featuring a sloping walkway, it gives the impression that the participant at the top is huge, while his or her sidekick at the bottom is much smaller. As always, you'll be given a detailed explanation of the phenomenon.

A museum made for all ages

Your smartphone or tablet will guide you through the museum in a fun way. In general, you'll also need your phone to scan the QR codes next to each exhibition, which link to the WOW E-Guide that explains everything. Some rooms are equipped with cameras, and you can capture animated GIFs of yourself and the whole family! Often, when you scan your QR code at the entrance to the rooms, you'll be surprised to see that a snapshot has been generated directly.

An application has been designed to suit all ages. For children, there's Willow, the elf hidden in the museum, who provides a host of amusing anecdotes. Older visitors will be charmed by the "Willow Rally", a fun, travelling quiz on illusions inside the museum. With a bit of luck, if you score well, you could even win the museum's monthly competition, and receive an item from the shop. Finally, the whole family can have fun in the interesting WOW Lab, where you can find famous optical illusions and take an in-depth look at the theme of colour in illusions.

Practical information

It's advisable to have a charged phone so that you can take advantage of the many interactions that require it, although for the more adventurous you can charge your phone on site.
