To sample the local produce, stroll past the colourful huts and visit a small oyster museum, head for the oyster port of Andernos. You'll be able to sample platters of seafood caught that very morning, to be savoured in front of the sea without moderation. Put your feet in the water and watch the professionals at work, going back and forth across the harbour.

The Andernos markets are also a big part of the town's life, so why not chat to the market-gardeners, smell the seasonal fruit and taste the local cheeses. These products adorn the crates and are very affordable. The bakers, cheesemongers and butchers always have good recipes to share.

Take a stroll through the town's narrow streets and you'll discover some architectural marvels, such as the church of Saint-Eloi on the banks of the Bassin. Practical info

🏊 If you decide to go for a swim, be very careful of the baïnes. These natural pools are real traps for swimmers.

At low tide they're easy to get into, but as soon as the tide comes back in, you could find yourself trapped and swept away by the waves. Every year, people lose their lives as a result of this natural phenomenon.

So keep a close eye on your children and listen to the lifeguards' instructions!

🚗 In high season traffic is very heavy and getting around by car becomes difficult. So it's best to get around by bike or on foot. And for the laziest, electric bike hire is available in virtually every bike shop.
