Day 1: A day on the Flaine ski slopes

If you set foot in the pedestrianised centre of Flaine on your first day, the call of the snow must be overwhelming. Flaine is the highest ski area in the Grand Massif (1600 metres to 2500 metres). With sixty-four runs of varying levels and twenty-four ski lifts, it caters for all levels of skier and snowboarder.

Have fun on Flaine's wide white boulevards, which follow the natural contours of the mountain. Conceived by French skiing legend and Mégevand by birth, Emile Allais, the ski area is one of the snowiest peaks in the French Alps. It is directly linked to the resort of Flaine.

We recommend that you visit the slopes that are considered to be the must-sees in Flaine:

  • The green Mélèze piste, a must in the heart of the beginners' sector.
  • The Serpentine blue run, also known as "la grande bleue des Platières". An unmissable seven-kilometre run offering one of the most remarkable panoramas of the resort of Flaine and the surrounding mountains, including the Mont Blanc massif.
  • The red Faust run, the most popular with fans of the genre in Flaine.
  • Finally, for freeride fans, La Combe de Gers is the place to be.

Day 2: Discovering the treasures of Flaine

For this second day in the heart of the Grand Massif, we invite you to discover the most beautiful view of the famous and impressive Mont Blanc massif. Yes, it's in Flaine that you'll be able to admire the most spectacular view of this legendary mountain.

From the centre of Flaine, head for the Grandes Platières - Forum cable car station. After a short journey of just over ten minutes, you'll reach the summit of the Grandes Platières. At an altitude of 2,500 metres, you'll be surrounded by spectacular scenery and breathtaking panoramic views of the Haut Giffre (Avoudrues, Montagne du Criou, Grenier de Commune, Le Buet, etc.), Aravis, Belledonne and Mont-Blanc ranges (the Pointe de Nyon and Pointe d'Angolon).

Make the most of this unique and unmissable moment during your stay in the winter sports resort of Flaine. There are two ways to discover this exceptional viewpoint.

If you want to start your second day with this activity, after enjoying the view, you can try the waterfall trail. Fourteen kilometres long, this blue trail takes you down to the edge of the Sixt-fer-à-Cheval nature reserve. The trail starts at the summit of the Grandes Platières and ends in the centre of Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval, where a free shuttle bus will take you to the Grand Massif Express in Samoëns or to the Morillon cable car to take you back to Flaine.

If, on the other hand, you'd prefer to discover the summit of the Grandes Platières later in the day, we suggest you enjoy the view and the slopes of the ski area before heading to one of the best establishments on the site. Le Désert Blanc welcomes you to one of its two panoramic terraces, whether you want to eat in the restaurant or just enjoy a drink in the brasserie with its mountain views.

As you can see, staying in the winter sports resort of Flaine offers you a multitude of ways to discover this exceptional site in the Grand Massif. To find out more, we've devoted an article to the art and architecture of Flaine and the Désert de Platé, a geological curiosity that's a must-see!
