La Rochelle has more than 5 beaches

La Rochelle boasts some magnificent beaches! In fact, the city has not one, not two, but 6 beaches, all with their own particular beauty and unique atmosphere. From Chef de Baie to Platin, Concurrence, Minimes, Platère and La Plage, you're bound to find a spot of warm sand on which to lay your towel!

Which beach to choose for which activity?

Whatever you fancy: a restful break, a swim, a stroll, a water-based activity... you're bound to find the right beach to spend a pleasant moment "in the fresh air" by the ocean.

La Concurrence beach for a picnic on the sand

Located a stone's throw from the town centre, just behind the Old Port and beneath the Lanterne Tower, Plage de la Concurrence is a firm favourite with the locals, who love to go there for a quick bite to eat. Whether it's a lunch break for locals working in the city centre, or a place for tourists to stop for a snack and enjoy a delicious ice cream from Ernest ice cream parlour overlooking the ocean, La Concurrence beach is a firm favourite with the locals.
