It was in 1987 that Dr Charles Socquet - a famous doctor and historian from Megève - decided to transform this authentic 19th-century farmhouse into a museum. Accompanied by an antique dealer with a passion for the region, he transformed the building into a museum dedicated to highlighting and safeguarding the local heritage. Since its creation, the museum has been run by volunteers who are keen to pass on their knowledge to visitors.
Ideally located in the centre of Megève, the Musée du Haut Val d'Arly is an old 19th century farmhouse that has been transformed into a memorial to the rural life of yesteryear. Come with your family or on your own to wander through the walls of this historic site and immerse yourself in the past.
The objects and stories on display along the way give visitors an insight into mountain life at the time. All aspects of life in days gone by are explored in detail. During your visit, you'll move from a bedroom to a craft workshop, before learning more about working the land and farming in the 1800s.
