A nature reserve near Saint-Brieuc

The Bay of Saint-Brieuc is a sensitive natural area, part of which has been protected for 25 years.

The amplitude of the tides is remarkable. At low tide, the English Channel retreats more than 7 kilometres from the coast!

Nearly 1,200 hectares of the Saint-Brieuc nature reserve are listed and protected. It comprises the coves of Yffiniac and Morieux.

Quite simply, this makes it the largest nature reserve in the Brittany region!

The reserve is mainly made up of a vast foreshore and salt meadows that are partly covered by the sea at high tide.

In addition to the maritime part, there is a terrestrial sector made up of dunes near Hillion (eastern part of the nature reserve).

An extraordinary concentration of biodiversity near Saint-Brieuc!

Nature is everywhere in the air, so keep your eyes peeled.

Just scan the sky, the sea and even the dunes! You're almost certain to spot a ballet of birds, a seal or even a fox on the dunes.

As is often the case, it's best to go in the morning or at the end of the day, when the light is more beautiful and the animals more numerous!

Among the wide variety of bird species (several tens of thousands counted each year) you can observe, depending on the season:

  • The white spoonbill
  • The horned pochard
  • Marsh harrier
  • Peregrine falcon
  • Shelduck

To help you in your observation, viewpoints have been set up throughout the area.

You can stop off at the Hôtellerie observatory in Hillion, the Grandville observatory in Morieux, or the Cage observatory in Langueux...

The nature reserve is subject to regulations, so don't forget to ask before your visit. Consult the information boards at the various access points to the reserve.

For example, dogs must be kept on a lead in the protected part of the nature reserve.

Please note that the south-western part of Yffiniac Bay is completely off-limits to the public.

In order to keep this area free from visitors and disturbance, all human activity is prohibited.
