Les Thermes Marins de Saint-Malo

Originally a former Belle Epoque palace, the hotel that is now the site of the marine thermal baths dates back to 1883. It was renovated by Doctor Pierre Heger, who decided to turn it into a health centre in response to the success of thalassotherapy. The hotel went on to develop more and more treatment and cosmetic techniques, doubling its capacity and becoming a 5-star pillar of the tourism and well-being industry. Facing the Sillon beach and in the heart of the corsair town, the thermal baths are the ideal place to access all kinds of treatments, including pools, hammams, weight rooms and swimming pools with optimum service as well as elegant rooms perfect for romantic getaways.

An evolution in history

Although construction began in the early 1880s with the Grand Hôtel de Paramé, it should also be noted that this was converted into a hospital during the Second World War, and then left to fall into disuse for almost twenty years before the intervention of Doctor Heger in 1963, who had the marvellous idea of channelling the invigorating sea spray and opening this now renowned thalassotherapy centre. After opening the Cap Horn restaurant in 1971, the Raulic family bought the spa ten years later, with the intention of restoring it to its former glory as a luxury spa.

The spa then continued to expand, with the creation of the Parcours Aquatonic and a new building offering numerous accommodation and relaxation areas. It was awarded 4 stars in 1995, and 5 stars in 2012, making it one of the most sought-after and luxurious hotels in the corsair town.

This year, the spa celebrates 60 years since Dr Heger took charge of the establishment. To mark the occasion, the venue has put on an exhibition retracing the history of the Saint-Malo thermal baths, starting with the very origins of the site in 1875: the creation of a seaside resort.

Test the Thermes Marins Aquatonic circuit

As well as the many treatments and breaks available at the Thermes Marins, one of the great attractions is the Aquatonic circuit. For €40, you can take advantage of the 40m² space, combining 14 workshops in a gentle, energetic environment, with 194 massage jets, whirlpools and bubbling areas, all of which have a physically relaxing, muscle-softening, toning and stimulating effect, with an extension to the steam room and sauna at the end of the circuit.

Offers for different durations and needs

Just 2 hours 14 minutes from Paris by train, Saint-Malo is an incredible town to visit in Brittany, with the perfect relaxation offers to indulge yourself. The marine thermal baths are a must for any relaxation package, with a wide range of choices to suit your budget and needs. From packages of six days' treatments and 7 days' accommodation costing up to €2,200, to shorter packages starting with one night and 4 treatments for €330, or a simple thalasso discovery offer ranging from 2 to 4 treatments and starting at just €85, you'll be spoilt for choice.

You can also combine the thalassotherapy and restaurant offers, with the magnificent Cap Horn gourmet restaurant offering a choice of treatments with an Emeraude menu in the restaurant, or a choice of several treatments and a traditional menu in the La Verrière restaurant. And if you'd rather just choose an à la carte treatment, you'll find plenty of options including an affusion massage, seaweed wrap, underwater shower or marine drainage, from €46.

Practical information

The thermal baths are located on the Grande Plage du Sillon at 100 Bd HĂ©bert in Saint-Malo and are delighted to welcome future visitors, who come at any time of year to take advantage of the offers available under the best conditions. Opening times and advice for your visit

Open every day from 8am to 7pm, the thermal baths are an essential place to visit in terms of well-being, but the length of your visit will need to be adapted to the treatments you choose and the benefits you want to enjoy. Half-days and weekends may bring well-being and relaxation, but they have little effect in the long term, and if you want lasting therapeutic effects, you'll need between 6 and 12 days of treatments to really feel the benefits of the cure. As Serge Raulic says: "The benefits of long stays are incomparable. The body needs time to adapt, to assimilate and fix the benefits of the treatments, which will be felt during the thalassotherapy but also long afterwards.
