The most beautiful hotels in the Monastir region

To the south of the Gulf of Hammamet, the Sousse-Monastir-Mahdia area is home to around a hundred establishments, some of which include a thalassotherapy centre. All offer bathing, thermal and spa treatments. The hammam is a must, as is the Moorish café where you can smoke chicha with a mint tea accompanied by oriental sweets. A local speciality, the hotels in this area have water slides, ideal for children! It's worth noting that there are no "adult only" hotels in this region. There aren't really any luxury establishments either, even if some of them do use the word palace in their name...

The hotels in Monastir are concentrated in the tourist area of Skanès, next to the airport, with around thirty hotels. For transfers, it's really convenient, less than 10 minutes away! You can also stay in the area around Sousse, Tunisia's third-largest city, some twenty kilometres further north, or in Mahdia, with its fifteen or so hotels, some forty kilometres further south. Mahdia is one of the most beautiful beaches in Tunisia, and one that is much less crowded. The good news is that the hotels in these three areas are almost all on the front line! **Thalasso, club, palace, here are our top hotels in Monastir, Sousse and Mahdia **.

Opened in April 2010, the Mövenpick is the first establishment in Sousse to bear the name of an international hotel chain, and probably the most luxurious hotel in Tunisia's third largest city! With its discreet entertainment, brand-new infrastructure and original restaurant offering, the hotel has what it takes to seduce the most discerning clientele.

16 km from Monastir airport, the Mövenpick Resort Marine Spa is located 1 km from Sousse town centre. With its 618 rooms, the Mövenpick is in a league of its own. Few hotels in Sousse have more than 400 rooms. Unlike most of its rivals, the hotel offers not one standard category but five: classic, superior and classic suites, panoramic and presidential.

With a surface area of 30 to 34 m², the classics offer more than decent space. Only the sea view differentiates them from the superior suites, while the interior layout is virtually identical in both categories.

Tear it all down and start again! Opened in April 2010, the Mövenpick sacrificed a former Club Coralia to build its imposing eight-storey edifice. Four swimming pools (a 3,000 m² outdoor pool, a second heated seawater pool in the spa and a children's pool), four whirlpools, a fitness room with sea views, a superb spa with 11 cabins (including two suites) and 11 wet rooms, five restaurants... And when the parents aren't around, the little ones can dance and have fun in the 130 m² mini-club divided into three age groups from 0 to 12.

The Mahdia Palace looks great. It's an institution in Mahdia, not to say a mythical hotel. It is the hotel that offers the most beautiful suites chosen by the great and the good of the world. The majestic entrance to Mahdia Palace looks more like an Andalusian citadel, with its ochre walls, zelliges and pink marble! We particularly like its retro feel, with its monumental lobby opening onto ceremonial lounges with full sea views, and its majestic staircases leading to the terrace and swimming pool. This 452-room luxury hotel also boasts a thalassotherapy centre and a 9-hole golf course. The citadel and medina of Mahdia are 5 km away. Monastir airport is 45 km further north, so allow an hour for transfers. The splendid Roman theatre of El Jem, a must-see excursion in Tunisia, is less than 30 km away.

The thalassotherapy centre offers a wide range of treatments and cures at very affordable prices. There's even a small 9-hole golf course... However, it's worth noting that this is one of the only hotels in the area that doesn't offer an all-inclusive package. It is therefore a little more expensive than its neighbours, but still very reasonable!

Lovers of water sports or parasailing will be delighted by the large, beautiful beach with turquoise waters and fine sand stretching out in front of them.
