The history of Grasse and its perfumes

Set in the foothills of the Southern Alps, Grasse impresses with its tall houses in the old town. The decor of its tall, colourful facades is remarkable.

🌹 But the town's greatest claim to fame is its perfume industry!

Indeed, the town of Grasse has been celebrating this fragrant product for centuries. Initially, it was leatherworking that made the local industry a success.

Perfumery soon took over (from the 18th century onwards) and various techniques and processes contributed to the fame of this local industry.

Today, the essences obtained in the Grasse region are used by the great Parisian perfumers and for the creation of food flavourings.
