The giant zip line at Serre Chevalier

It's a new must-do activity in the beautiful Serre Chevalier Vallée Briançon resort, whether in summer or winter. The giant zip line opened in 2021 to the delight of thrill-seekers. You'll really be able to breathe in the fresh mountain air when you reach the summit of Serre Chevalier to embark on a magical descent clinging to the cable of the zip line. You can try out this new activity at an altitude of almost 2,500 metres, with a length of 1,100 metres and a height difference of 300 metres for a crazy descent lasting around one minute. Whether solo or in a duo, this is an activity to enjoy with the whole family and admire the panorama of the Ecrins National Park. It's open to everyone, and everyone loves a zip-line descent. If you want to extend the activity, you can have something to eat before you take the cable car or at the end of the descent.

How do I get to the giant zip line in Serre Chevalier?

To access the zip line you'll need to :

  • on the outward journey, leave from Chantemerle, take the Ratier cable car and then the Serre Chevalier cable car to the summit at 2491 metres.
  • On the way back, take the Grand Serre chairlift back up to the summit (where you can pick up your photo), then the Serre Chevalier cable car and the Ratier cable car.

Who is the giant zip line in Serre Chevalier for?

The giant zip line at Serre Chevalier is not suitable for pregnant women or people with pacemakers. For a solo zip line descent: You must weigh a minimum of 25 kg and a maximum of 120 kg. For a duo zip line descent: You must weigh a minimum of 50 kg with a minimum of 25 kg per person and a maximum of 120 kg in total. You must not be more than 40 kg apart. Your weight will be checked at the start of the activity. The activity is risk-free and even people with vertigo can take part.

How is the activity going?

When you arrive at the top of the Serre Chevalier cable car, you'll need to get kitted out before going up to the start of the zip line. All you have to do is put on a very comfortable harness, accompanied by the instructor who will check that everything is OK. You will also be equipped with a helmet and you will pick up the trolley which will be attached to the cable. You'll climb the last few steps to the summit, just to get over the 2,500 metre mark. This is when your stress or excitement will be at its peak. If it's your first time, the instructor will be there to reassure you, telling you that you'll have a slight sensation at the start and that after that it'll be nothing but happiness. You'll have to sit down, straighten your legs and when you start you'll have to lift your legs and squeeze them. He'll count to 3 and then it's off downhill. Don't close your eyes for long, because the view is just magical.

Smile, you're being photographed

If you haven't brought a sports camera with you to film your descent, don't panic, a photo will be taken automatically to immortalise the moment. What's more, a radar will also let you know your speed. You can pick up your photo at the start of the activity for €5 per photo, payable by credit card.
