Go-karting on ice

Since 1995, karting fans and the curious have been able to go ice karting at Serre Chevalier, on a 500-metre track in the heart of the resort. There's no doubt about it, if you're coming on a family holiday in winter, ice karting is the activity your teenagers will love. The karts are equipped for easy driving on the ice, making it great fun for anyone who wants to try it out. You'll get a real thrill out of taking tight corners, skidding and racing with the other participants. On the track, you'll be in complete safety, with special facilities to make sure you have a great time with family and friends. Ice karting is also a popular activity for corporate seminars. Employees can even take part in team tournaments to try and win.

What is ice karting?

If you want to try out an unusual activity in the mountains, ice karting is definitely the one to try out during your holiday. Ice karting is quite similar to track karting. The only difference is that the karts have studded tyres, making them easier to drive on ice or snow. Driving on ice offers unique sliding sensations, making it a great family activity. Just like your first time on an ice rink, your first few laps of ice karting will be a little timid, but you'll soon pick up speed after a few minutes' practice.

Who is this activity aimed at?

Unlike driving a car on ice, this activity is open to adults and children alike, subject to age limits. In the resort of Serre Chevalier, children are allowed to go ice karting from the age of 14 and can be alone in their karts. An ideal outing for families and friends. If you're on your own, you can of course go ice karting, racing with other people on the track. You don't have to be part of a group to take part.

What equipment do you need for ice karting?

You'll need to bring a little equipment if you want to go ice karting. You'll be outside in the cold, as the track is frozen, so you'll need to be well covered up. You can wear your ski suit or a fleece and a warm jacket. To protect your hands, you must wear gloves, otherwise you'll quickly get cold and have trouble driving your kart in the best conditions. A full-face helmet is compulsory and provided by the organisation, but you can also use your own helmet if it is full-face. You can wear your ski mask to protect you from the sun and the wind that you will feel because of the speed. Scarves are forbidden for your safety. Chokers are preferable.
