👉 A unique site just a few minutes from the centre of Carnac!

Oyster farming dates back to 1880 in the Pô district, making it one of the oldest oyster farming sites in France!

The production site is ideally located in the heart of Quiberon Bay, not far from Plouharnel Bay. What's more, the climate in this corner of Southern Brittany is ideal for oyster production!

There are still over thirty producers in the area.

Otherwise, the landscape alone is worth the trip, the atmosphere changing according to the tides and winds that blow through the area.

So, photographers, choose the beginning or the end of the day. The light is divine here at dawn or dusk!

The Po area lends itself well to family discovery. You can alternate between visiting the oyster farms and strolling along the bay and coves.

If you're looking for an oyster producer, stop off at Ty Huîtres. It's an original concept that's perfect for a tasty, iodised break!

You can enjoy fresh oysters on the terrace, breathing in the salt-laden air - it's a dream!

What's more, you can order your seafood to take away from the Pô production site.

Choose your oysters or ask for a seafood platter for special occasions!

One of the best places to eat in the Pô district is the restaurant la Calypso is a clear favourite.

Facing the oyster beds of the Bay of Po, in an old fisherman's house, make yourself comfortable. All you have to do is enjoy the unrivalled freshness of the seafood (fish and shellfish)!

The menu at this seafood bistro includes grilled meats cooked over an open fire! Fish such as turbot and monkfish are cooked on the grill.

And for a special treat, lobster or grilled lobster are sublimely cooked over a wood fire!

The Calypso restaurant is open every day except Monday, from 12.30pm to 2pm and from 7.30pm to 10pm.

Finally, there's nothing like a good walk after that delicious meal! Luckily, the GR 34 footpath runs along the Po. You can follow it north towards Plouharnel Bay and on towards Erdeven.

Alternatively, head south-east towards the beaches of Carnac, in the following order:

  • Légènes beach
  • La Grande Plage
  • Beaumer beach

🗓️ When to come and discover the oyster-farming district of Pô centre in Carnac?

The little port of Le Pô can be visited all year round. Every season is possible, offering an atmosphere that's perfect for exploring and strolling around.

Note that late spring often has fine sunny days, and the number of visitors is lower than in July and August.

At this time of year, all the restaurants are open and it's easier to find somewhere to sleep (except between mid-July and mid-August).

Conversely, the winter months are harsher and some addresses are closed at this time.

🚌 How do I get to the Port du Pô next to Carnac?

By train, the nearest SNCF station to Carnac is Auray, 15 kilometres away. Several TGV trains run daily in summer.

Buses run from Auray station to Carnac.

If you're coming by car, Paris is less than 500 kilometres away (just under 5 hours' drive). Brittany's motorways are well maintained and free of charge!

Carnac is also accessible by air from Lorient, Rennes and Nantes airports.

Free shuttle buses run between the town and the other sites in the commune in summer.

To get to the Pô district, it's best to have your own vehicle.

From the centre of Carnac village, simply follow the Rue du Po, heading due west!

🅿️ Where to park near the Pô district?

In summer (June to September), it can be difficult to find a parking space in the area. Try to come early or late in the afternoon.

The rest of the year, you'll easily find somewhere to park your car.

However, be careful not to get in the way of the oyster farmers!
