Corsican cuisine: the journey begins on your plate

There's no doubt about it, the island of beauty is a dream destination for epicureans!

In fact, in Corsica, a meal often takes on a festive air, with so many tasty and unique specialities!

This rich land offers its inhabitants and visitors a record number of fresh products and original recipes.

Corsica is famous for its vines, olives, fruit (mandarins), numerous chestnut trees, olive oil...

Farmers also produce the famous Corsican cheese. Several varieties are grown in the maquis, mainly ewe's milk and goat's milk cheeses.

Brocciu is one of the best known, a kind of fresh white cheese made from a mixture of sheep's milk and whole milk.

Finally, Corsican charcuterie is the other star of the island's gastronomy. Sausages and figatelli are all made from pigs. You'll be lucky if you taste real Corsican charcuterie made from wild pigs!

🍴 At Cantina di l'Orriu a gourmet's dream address!

In this Ali Baba's cave, you'll find a sample of the best products from all over the island of beauty.

It's a temple to Corsican charcuterie.

À Cantina di l'Orriu is located in the upper town near the Place de l'Église. The shop is open every day in high season. It closes from the end of February to the beginning of April.

A number of restaurants in the upper town and in the marina offer typical cuisine based on local produce. Ask local producers and the Tourist Office for the best addresses!

🍴 The Domaine Viticole de Granajolo offers organically-farmed wines. Located in the commune of Sainte-Lucie de Porto-Vecchio. To get to Domaine de Granjolo, head towards Pinarellu. Then follow La Testa / Caramontinu.

Don't forget to ask about visiting and tasting times.

And to get a feel for the soul of the island's producers and craftspeople, try to do your local market outside the summer months.

🍴 Market days in Porto-Vecchio and the surrounding area:

  • Porto-Vecchio: Sunday mornings from 7am to 1pm in the Place de la Mairie.
  • Figari: Saturday mornings from 9am to 12pm
  • Lecci: Wednesday mornings from 8.30am to 1pm
  • Bonifacio: Friday mornings from 9am to 1pm in the loggia of the Arsenal in the Upper Town.

Finally, there are several wine estates surrounding the town of Porto-Vecchio. Always to be enjoyed in moderation

Where can you sleep in a farmhouse inn near Porto-Vecchio?

🍴 The Domaine de Piscia awaits you in the midst of unspoilt nature far from man, an ideal base for total relaxation.

The Piscia farmhouse inn is located in the heart of the maquis, around thirty kilometres from Porto-Vecchio.

The panoramic view over the Figari plain is exceptional. As is the huge swimming pool, ideal after a day's walking in these unspoilt surroundings.

As a bonus, the meals are divine. These are prepared using organic, fresh, seasonal produce.

🚗 Parking is no problem, as a car park is provided for Domaine de Piscia guests.

Where to stay in a quality hotel-restaurant not far from Porto-Vecchio?

The hotel-restaurant La Terrasse in the village of Zonza is perfect if you want to combine a quiet night's sleep with typical food.

This establishment has been established since 1915 under the magnificent Aiguilles de Bavella in the heart of the village of Zonza.

🛌 La Terrasse de Zonza has just 11 rooms. They are all comfortable and offer beautiful views of the valley and the surrounding relief.

🍴 Breakfast is served every morning in the restaurant or on the terrace with its splendid view.

The main attraction of this hotel remains its famous restaurant!

Corsican specialities are served here at lunch and dinner. The wild boar, divinely prepared, often takes pride of place.

Special mention should also be made of the charcuterie platters.

⏰ The hotel is closed from the end of October to the beginning of April.

Practical information

When should you come and sample the gastronomy of the Porto-Vecchio region and southern Corsica?

The town and its culinary treasures await you all year round!

For a taste of "real" Corsican charcuterie, come in the spring.

However, note that most restaurants and some shops are closed in low season.

🚌 How do you get to Porto-Vecchio for a gastronomic experience?

The town of Porto-Vecchio and its region are very well served by bus from Bastia or Ajaccio. Several buses leave for Porto-Vecchio every day. The bus station is located right next to the marina.

✈️ By air, the commune is linked to a number of destinations via Figari-Sud-Corse airport. Private aviation and flying club.

Once in the heart of the resort, restaurants and the market are within easy reach.

🚐 Finally, there is a totally free electric shuttle bus. This links the marina to the Ville Haute all year round.

With the typically Corsican name of "A Citadina", the network connects the town centre, the port and all the city's major car parks all year round.

⏰ In summer, from June to August, the shuttle runs every 15 minutes. Services run every day from 8.10am to 11.30pm.

In low season, the shuttle runs every 20 minutes. The service also runs every day from 8.10am to 7.30pm.

On Sundays, however, the service is reduced. Operating hours are therefore limited to 08.10 to 13.30.

The easiest way to get to the hotels listed here is to have your own vehicle.

🚗 Where can I park near the famous addresses in Porto-Vecchio?

Most of the addresses are in the centre of the resort of Porto-Vecchio.

Be aware that parking in the heart of the seaside resort is subject to a charge.

There are a number of car parks just off the marina.

If you want to park easily, come early in the summer!
