There's been a change of scenery since the end of 2015! The Unterlinden Museum now has a new setting for displaying its collections and larger exhibition spaces. Architects Herzog & de Meuron have linked the former 13th-century convent to the old municipal baths via an underground gallery. This extension has enabled the museum to double its exhibition space, which now covers almost 8,000m²!
Housed in a former 13th-century convent in Colmar town centre, the Unterlinden Museum is the second most visited Fine Arts Museum in France (outside Paris)! It
presents a remarkable collection of paintings and sculptures from prehistory to the 20th century. Enlarged and renovated in 2015, the Unterlinden Museum, originally housed in a convent, is now linked to the former municipal baths. An underground gallery with three exhibition rooms also runs beneath the Place Unterlinden and the canal. This museum is a must-see, as the setting in which the collections are housed is also well worth a visit. Stroll through the former medieval cloister and discover the impressive collections of paintings, sculptures, objets d'art of all kinds, modern art and archaeology... The tour also includes the cloister garden, the museum orchard, a café and a shop.
