Fuerteventura's beaches for surfers

The beaches of Fuerteventura are a paradise for surfers and swimmers alike! The island's immense beaches are absolutely stunning, with their fine sand and crystal-clear waters continually swept by the trade winds. Often bordered by fishing villages, they are among the most beautiful beaches in Europe! Here are our 2 favourites:

🌊 La playa Sotavento

Located in the south of Fuerteventura, between Costa Calma and Jandía and not far from Morro del Jable, playa Sotavento is a paradise on Earth. With its lagoon where turquoise water meets sandbanks, it offers a breathtaking spectacle. Without doubt one of the most beautiful beaches in the Canary Islands!

With its fine sand and turquoise waters, it's the perfect place for sunbathing. But that's not all: in fact, Sotavento beach is a very popular spot for water sports enthusiasts. Kite-surfing, windsurfing... there's no shortage of activities! However, of all the beaches in the archipelago, it is fairly well protected from mass tourism. In fact, it's part of the Jandía nature park, which has been very carefully preserved by the archipelago's leaders

📍 How do I get there?

Sotavento beach is 20 minutes from Morro del Jable via the FV-2 road.

🌊 Esquinzo beach

Esquinzo beach, in the north of the island near the trendy village of Lajares and El Cotillo, is popular with surf enthusiasts. Although the waves are much better in winter, the beach is an excellent spot even in summer. It offers waves for goofies and regulars alike.

It's a quiet beach, ideal for surfing at high tide. Playa de Esquinzo should not be confused with Boca de Esquinzo, to the south of the island.

📍 How do I get there?

The beach is 20 minutes from El Cotillo along the coast to the south.

The wild beaches of Fuerteventura

There are many wild beaches on the island of Fuerteventura! With few tourists and totally unspoilt, they are untouched by human hands. They are appreciated for their tranquillity, their beauty and the cleanliness of their crystal-clear waters. Here's a closer look at 2 wild beaches that are well worth a visit!

🌊 La playa de Cofete

Not far from Morro del Jable, Cofete isn't the best-known beach in the Canary Islands, but it's clearly one of the most beautiful. And like all beautiful beaches worthy of the name, it has to be earned! It's not easy to get to: hire cars aren't allowed on the tracks, as there's a great risk of getting a flat tyre. Some people do it anyway, at their own risk!

After climbing the hill, it's time to stop at the top to admire the immense beach before our eyes: wow! An endless, wild, unspoilt beach stretches out at the foot of rugged mountains, a landscape at the end of the world, with not a single hotel on the horizon!

📍 How do you get there?

From Morro del Jable, allow around 45 minutes on roads and tracks.

🌊 Corralejo Dunes Park

Head to the far north of Fuerteventura this time, to discover the Corralejo dunes. This little piece of the Sahara seriously gives you the impression of being in Africa... At the same time, you have to remember that Morocco is only a hundred kilometres away!

This 1,670-hectare Saharan landscape, a must-see site in Fuerteventura, offers dream beaches and coves for those who want to relax and get away from it all! While those in the south are more touristy, the small coves that you discover as you go deeper into the middle of the park are wild and peaceful. In fact, they're particularly popular with naturists.

📍 How do I get there?

Corralejo is located in the far north of Fuerteventura, at the very end of the FV-1 road.
