Kunsthaus Zurich, the country's largest art museum!

With around 4,000 paintings and sculptures and 95,000 graphic works**, the Kunsthaus Zurich boasts one of the most important art collections in Switzerland, from the 13th century to the present day. In fact, it is considered to be the largest art museum in the country! Around 1,000 works are on permanent display, as many of the objects are too fragile to be shown to the public, or are still the subject of scientific research. The Zurich Art Museum will delight all painting fans: you can see fine works by Munch, Giacometti, Picasso, Monet, Chagall, Rothko, Warhol, which are spread across two separate venues: the "Moser" building and David Chipperfield's extension (opening in 2021), which is a little gem of architecture.

The Kunsthaus Zurich is located in the center of Zurich.

A building bathed in light

The museum's works are housed in two buildings. The most recent, built by architect David Chipperfield and opening in 2021, is sure to catch your eye. Built in the shape of a parallelepiped, and flooded with light, it is linked to the Moser building by an underground passage, with a spacious lobby to welcome guests to the new building. With a design boutique, bar, ballroom and'Art Garden', the new building creates an organic connection with the surrounding neighbourhood.

Impressionists and post-Impressionists in the spotlight

A large part of the exhibition is also devoted to 19th-century French painting (Géricault, Corot, Delacroix, Courbet and Manet). You will be particularly enchanted by the vast group of works by Claude Monet, culminating in the famous water lilies series. Other pioneering post-impressionists such as Gauguin, Cézanne and van Gogh, who influenced a stylistic shift around 1900, also feature in the collections.

Finally, you'll also have the chance to discover "the Nabis" a group of artists who were part of a post-impressionist avant-garde artistic movement that emerged on the fringes of academic painting in the late 19th and early 20th

centuries. These artists sought to break down the boundaries between the fine arts and the applied arts. There are many works by Bonnard and Vuillard, who became particularly popular in Switzerland very early on.

Installations such as Pipilotti Rist's immersive "Turicum Pixelwald", video installations, temporary exhibitions, workshops and guided tours make for an unforgettable experience.
