Surfing in Zurich in summer

Located right next to Zürich Hardbrücke station, the "Urbansurf platform" offers surfing right in the middle of the city! Since 2018, people have been able to learn or perfect the sport of surfing (surfriding) in an urban environment at Gerold-Areal. A water-filled basin called "Citywave" is fitted with a special device to produce ocean-like waves.

Up to 6 surfers take it in turns to train for 30-minute sessions. Those who prefer to stay dry can watch the surfers comfortably seated on a beach chair and enjoy drinks from the "Citywave" bar, as well as regional specialities. Admission is free. Surf sessions can be booked in advance or online. No need to bring your own equipment: it's included in the price.

In the beginners' surf lesson, you'll surf for 30 minutes ina group of no more than 6 people. After a short introduction to surfing (how to stand correctly on the surfboard, safety in the water), you can take to the water. You'll be supported and guided by experienced surf coaches at all times.

If you've already got some experience, the 30-minute Advanced Surf Session is perfect for you! The surf coaches are always there to help you, but you're on your own on the wave.

This surfing session is suitable for children and teenagers up to the age of 16. What's more, they must weigh at least 30 kilograms to be able to control the surfboard properly. After a short introduction to surfing on the Citywave, the session begins. The surf coaches are always on hand to help the children with their surfing moves.

If you wish, you can take advantage of a private session for you and your friends. You can use the 30-minute surf session, or in a group (but remember that the time allowed is reduced according to the number of players). The session is suitable for people with no surfing experience, as coaches can be present if you wish.
