The Pays d'Aix, a land of wines

As well as being renowned for its gentle way of life, the warmth of its people and its colourful cuisine, the Pays d'Aix is world-renowned for its top-quality wines. The Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence, Côtes-de-Provence and other AOP Sainte-Victoire wines come from a warm region where rain is rare, and will give you a unique taste experience.

The white wineshave citrus, pear and fennel aromas in a fresh, airy package. They share this with the bright, sparkling rosés, which are complex and fruity on the palate, and above all, thirst-quenching. As for the red wines, they are full-bodied and gourmet. All these wines go perfectly with the region's culinary specialities, and will delight the taste buds of wine lovers and connoisseurs alike.

Why visit Château La Coste?

Just north ofAix-en-Provence, the Château La Coste wine estate extends over almost 200 hectares, where vines grow alongside umbrella pines, olive trees and cypresses. The wines produced here are organic and certified Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence and IGP des Portes de Méditerranée. You can visit the winery, a veritable work of art designed by architect Jean Nouvel, and see how the grapes are harvested, matured and bottled.

The tour ends with a tasting workshop, during which you can learn to recognise the typical taste of this wine. Housed in a former farmhouse, the Château La Coste cellar is the perfect place to take home a bottle of this precious nectar. Lunch in one of the estate's four restaurants will also be an opportunity to match these wines with delicious dishes: from the guinguette to the Michelin-starred restaurant, there's something to suit every taste and budget.

Château La Coste is also a place dedicated to architecture and art. Along a four-kilometre route, the Art & Architecture walk winds its way through the hills of the estate, taking visitors on a discovery of different works by architects and artists. The artists and architects have chosen their locations and designed their creations to blend perfectly into the spaces of Château Lacoste, in harmony with nature.

Visitors will come across works by Louise Bourgeois, Tadao Ando and Andy Goldsworthy as they stroll through the woods and olive groves. If you're interested in the subject, be sure to book a guided tour to find out more about these unique installations. Temporary exhibitions are regularly held on the estate.
