👉The Carnac Prehistory Museum, a must-see!

The Prehistory Museum boasts a remarkable archaeological collection. Nearly 450,000 years of history are on display along the way.

It's a real journey through time that unfolds before your astonished eyes! The flint points, engraved slabs and shell necklaces are all in a remarkable state of preservation.

An odyssey through the ages, from the Palaeolithic to the Roman period... Many of the objects on display come from excavations carried out in the surrounding area.

Most of the objects on display, for example, come from excavations carried out by James Miln of Woodhill. This Scottish history and antiquities enthusiast undertook excavations, notably at the Kermario Alignments.

The archaeological sites surrounding Carnac have yet to reveal all their secrets!

As well as discovering the riches of the museum, the site also offers workshops and themed tours suitable for all the family.

🍴Take a break next to the Musée de Préhistoire in Carnac Bourg

Around the Carnac Prehistory Museum, you'll have a choice of places to eat.

Restaurants, crêperies, markets - there's no shortage of places to eat well in the town of Carnac!

Located right next to the Carnac Prehistory Museum, the crêperie de la Pompe is a well-known address in the village. Don't forget that you're in Brittany, home of the galette!

Here you can choose between galettes, crêpes or mussels prepared in a variety of ways. The restaurant seats over fifty.

What's more, the crêperie de la Pompe is open all year round.

Alternatively, if you're in the mood for a picnic, stop off at the Maison Louis bakery.

You'll find delicious bread, quiches and a divine collection of cakes! If you've got a sweet tooth, you'll love the beignets.

⭐Where to sleep near the Carnac Prehistory Museum?

The An Ti Gwenn hotel is located in the town of Carnac, just a few metres from the Museum of Prehistory and not far from the famous alignments.

🗓️ When to come to the Carnac Prehistory Museum?

The first thing to remember is that the Museum of Prehistory is not open all year round.

Depending on the season, the museum is not open every day!

However, the museum is open during the school holidays from 10am to 12.30pm and from 2pm to 5.30pm.

Admission to the museum is charged, but children under 6 are free. There is also a charge for activities.

🚌 How do I get to the Carnac Prehistory Museum?

By train, the nearest SNCF station to Carnac is Auray, 15 kilometres away. Several TGV trains run daily in summer.

Buses run from Auray station to Carnac.

If you're coming by car, Paris is less than 500 kilometres away (just under 5 hours' drive). Brittany's motorways are well maintained and free of charge!

Carnac is also accessible by air from Lorient, Rennes and Nantes airports.

Free shuttle buses run between the village and the other sites in the area in summer. If you're staying in the village, the museum is within walking distance!

🅿️ Where to park near the Carnac Prehistory Museum?

In summer (June to September), the car park opposite the museum is subject to a charge.

There is a free car park (please check if it is accessible if there is a market) near the media library.
